Alligation or Mixture problems
Find the quantity of rice @ Rs. 10 per kg. which should be mixed with 25 kgs of rice @ Rs. 8 per kg, so that on selling the mixture @ Rs. 15 per kg there is 80% profit.
Cost price of the mixture = 15 × (100 / 180) = Rs. 25/3 per kg
(Quantity of rice @ Rs. 8 per kg) / (Quantity of rice @ Rs.10 per kg) = (5 / 3) / (1/3) = 1/5
Quantity of rice @ Rs. 10 per kg = 25 × (1/ 5) = 5 kgs.
Let the initial amount of honey in the jar was K, then 512 = K 1 - 1 5 4 ? 20 % = 20 100 = 1 5 or 512 = K 4 5 4 Therefore, K = 1250 Hence initially the honey in the jar= 1.25 kg
Let the price per kg of mixed variety be Rs. P; then By the rule of alligation,Now, (20 - P) / (P - 15) = (2 / 3) ? 60 ? 3P = 2P ? 30 ? 5P = 90 ? P = Rs. 18
Using Alligation rule, (Quantity of cheaper tea) / (Quantity of dearer tea) = (d - m) / (m - c) = 7/3Therefore, they must be mixed in the ratio of 7 : 3.
