Khwaja Nizam-ud-Din Ahmad Bakshi was a Muslim historian of late medieval India. He was the son of Muhammad Muqim-i-Harawi. Nizamuddin Ahmad wrote the book Tabaqat-i-Akbari which is a general history of the Muslim rule in India coming down to the year of its composition.
The Mughal emperor Akbar established a Translation Department. The department was given the task of translating Hindu religious scriptures, such as the Atharvaveda, the Mahabharata, Harivamsa and the Ramayana into Persian.

He is called father of Indology and the first anthropologist. He is called one of the earliest and greatest polymath of the Islamic World.
