Alligation or Mixture problems
A milk seller pays Rs. 500 per kiloliter for his milk. He adds water to it and sells the mixture at 56 P a liter, thereby making altogether 40 % profit. Find the proportion of water to milk which his customers receive?
Let the capacity of the pot be 'P' litres.Quantity of milk in the mixture before adding milk = 4/9 (P - 8)After adding milk, quantity of milk in the mixture = 6/11 P.6P/11 - 8 = 4/9(P - 8)10P = 792 - 352 => P = 44. The capacity of the pot is 44 liters.
Rate of rice of quantity 280 kg = Rs. 15.60/kg Rate of rice of quantity 120 kg = Rs. 14.40/kg He want to earn a profit of Rs. 10.45/kg Rate of Mix to sell to get profit of 10.45 = 280 x 15 . 60 + 120 x 14 . 40 280 + 120 + 10 . 45 4368 + 1728 400 + 10 . 45 = > 15 . 24 + 10 . 45 = 25 . 69
By the rule of alligation, we have: Profit on 1st part Profit on 2nd part 8% Mean Profit 14% 18% 4 6 Ration of 1st and 2nd parts = 4 : 6 = 2 : 3 ∴ Quantity of 2nd kind = ❨ 3 x 1000 ❩kg = 600 kg.
Let C.P. of 1 liter milk be Re. 1, Gain = 16 2/3 % = 50/3 %and S.P. of 1 liter mixture = Re. 1 then C.P. of 1 liter mixture = (1 x (100 x 3) / 350) = Re. (6 / 7) By the rule of alligation,Hence, required ratio = (1/ 7) : (6 / 7) = 1 : 6
