Akbar remained illiterate and uneducated all his life. He had to occupy the throne at the early age of 13 years after the untimely death of his father Humayun.
The administrative system during the rule of the Bahamani kingdom was well-organized. Alauddin I divided the kingdom into four divisions called tarafs each entrusted under the command of an officer called tarafdar.
Sufism or mysticism emerged in the 8th century. Some of the early known Sufis are as follows: Rabia al-Adawiya, Al-Junaid, and Bayazid Bastami. Sufism evolved into a well-developed movement by the end of the 11th century.
