The Hindu Widows’ Remarriage Act, 1856, also Act XV, 1856, enacted on 25 July 1856, legalized the remarriage of Hindu widows in all jurisdictions of India under East India Company rule was drafted by Lord Dalhousie.
Jallianwala Bagh incident took place on 13th April, 1919. Rabindranath Tagore gave up his Knighthood. Gandhiji wrote in his “Young India” magazine that “This satanic government cannot be mended, it must be ended”. Martial Law was imposed in many parts of Punjab in the evening. All public movements were restricted.

The protests against the Simon Commission at Lahore on 30 October 1928 were led by Lala Lajpat Rai. There was a lathi-charge, and the police singled out Lala Lajpat Rai for brutal treatment, leading to his untimely, unfortunate death on 17 November 1928.
