An urban heat island is the name given to describe the characteristic warmth of both the atmosphere and surfaces in cities (urban areas) compared to their (non-urbanized) surroundings. The heat island is an example of unintentional climate modification when urbanization changes the characteristics of the Earth’s surface and atmosphere.
Impact crater is a type of impact landform formed due to collision of astronomical objects. Impact crater is a circular depression formed by the hypervelocity impact of a smaller body. Impact craters should not be confused with landforms like sinkholes, glacial cirques which are different in composition and origin from the impact crater.
