On 21 September 2021, the Government of India appointed Chaudhari as the next Chief of the Air Staff after the retirement of Air Chief Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria on 30 September 2021.
The new sites include three wetlands (Karikili Bird Sanctuary, Pallikaranai Marsh Reserve Forest and Pichavaram Mangrove) in Tamil Nadu, one (Pala wetland) in Mizoram and one wetland (Sakhya Sagar) in Madhya Pradesh.
Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari presented the Mother Teresa Memorial Award for 2021 to actor and UN Goodwill Ambassador for Environment DiaMirza and 'UN Champion of the Earth' awardee Afroz Shah.
