The city of Allahabad was originally known as Prayag in ancient times. The Union Home Ministry has approved the proposal of the Uttar Pradesh Government to rename Allahabad as Prayagraj. Akbar’s grandson Shah Jahan renamed the entire city as Allahabad.
North-Eastern Zonal Council has eight states viz, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam. Taking states and UTs together, the Northern zonal council has the maximum number of states and UT.
